Job Title: Quality Engineer Location of Employment: Shanghai, or Greater China

Role Summary

The Quality Engineer - Electrical/Electronic specializes in quality assurance for power tools, cordless tools, and battery management systems. This role is responsible for performing packaging material and artwork review, document verification, including test reports and certificates validation, with particular emphasis on battery safety and power tool compliance. Conduct on-site testing and product inspections covering electrical & electronic (ENE) appliances, with a strong focus on battery packs, charging systems, and power tool safety. Good troubleshooting skills and manufacturing know-how for power tools and battery systems are preferred. Responsible for shipment release approval. Work closely with 3rd party laboratories & suppliers for seamless testing and inspection services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for electrical & electronic categories' total quality management up to shipment approval, with specialization in power tools, cordless tools, and battery systems.
  • Conduct safety and performance testing for power tools, battery packs, and charging systems, including battery management system (BMS) evaluation and validation.
  • Review and validate battery safety certifications (UN38.3, IEC 62133, EN 62133) and power tool compliance (EN 60745).
  • Need to conduct product review for risk assessment and troubleshooting, particularly for battery thermal management, motor control systems, and mechanical safety features.
  • New product and component inspection and evaluation, including battery cell chemistry, BMS functionality, and charging protocols assessment.
  • Pre-shipment inspection and reporting.
  • Establish product information and check list for power tools and battery-powered products.
  • Supplier quality control and corrective action follow up, with focus on battery and power tool manufacturers.
  • Product certificate and document verification for power tools and battery systems.
  • Work with authorized organizations (e.g. TUV PS, VDE, testing laboratories) about new requirements and standards for European market, specifically for battery and power tool regulations.
  • Quality document review and approval including test report, inspection report, GS/CE Certificate, Battery Regulation compliance, BSCI. Responsible for quality documents record & management.
  • Arrangement / co-ordination of 3rd party testing & inspection for power tools and battery products.
  • On site visit for supplier management including product review and conduct product inspection with reporting at power tool and battery manufacturers.

Skills and Qualifications

Education & experience

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent discipline in Electrical, Electronic, Power Electronics Engineering, or Manufacturing.
  • Experience with power tools, cordless tools, and battery management systems (BMS) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery systems, battery safety standards, and power tool safety requirements for European market.
  • Good communication skills both in English and Mandarin.
  • Business travel in SE Asia & Greater China region is required.
  • 5+ years Quality Control experience is preferred, with experience in power tools or battery systems highly valued.
  • General proficiency of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Good analytical mind with a can-do attitude. Independent and good problem-solving skills & sound manufacturing knowhow for power tools and battery products are preferred.

General skills

  • Team player with excellent communication & presentation skills in English and Chinese.
  • Can-do attitude and independent. Good problem-solving skills & sound manufacturing and product knowhow for European market are preferred, particularly for power tools and battery-powered products.
  • A good understanding of quality testing and electrical & Electronic testing is required. Understanding of battery cell chemistry, BMS functionality, charging protocols, and power tool motor systems is a plus.
  • Using data to drive decisions.
  • Project Management skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively and handle challenges and tight deadlines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with other departments (e.g., category, logistics). Communicate location-independently with a team in multiple countries and locations.
  • Excellent IT & computer skills (Windows or macOS): Work in a modern work environment and able to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of Product compliance, sustainability standards, European Environmental Regulations, and EU Battery Regulation (2023/1542).
